I’m back after weeks of being *super* busy with work. Not that the busy part is over—but I’d like to think it’s slowly reducing and I’m feeling the progress coming along.
Anyway! I’m here to talk about PaperCon, an upcoming event organized by me and two good friends of mine who are equally as invested as paper as I am.
I never really talk about organizing events but I have organized quite a few in the past—Type Lab was an initiative I thought of last 2015 (in order to bring the type community in the Philippines together), and then I also started being hands-on with my book launches since the release of The ABCs of Journaling (we ended up having 200+ attendees plus lots of fun booths during the event). I also planned my whole debut with my mom (because I was so stingy and picky with what I wanted out of my party lol) and basically have had my hand at supervising events from start to finish.
So it was no surprise that I immediately jumped on PaperCon when my co-organizers were talking about it (I was the persistent one who said it should happen, like a true Capricorn lol). As much as I’m in charge of the whole shebang, we’re a team of 4 working to make each and every detail of quality and of course, making sure this event would be a success. I’m (obviously) working on content strategy and social media marketing, and I love it—it’s nice to actually apply my skills to something else apart from my own brand. Haha.
If you’re wondering, what’s PaperCon?
PaperCon PH is an event that brings together makers & creatives who love all things paper and stationery.
With an objective to create a platform for paper enthusiasts to meet and to establish the presence of small creative businesses in Metro Manila, the first ever PaperCon is happening on October 5, 2019, Saturday, from 10AM to 7PM at Prosperity Hall, The Elements at Centris, Quezon City, Metro Manila. Regular tickets cost P100, while VIP tickets (limited to 200 only!) cost P500, which includes a set of giveaways from the event’s vendors.
This one-day event will be packed with makers of paper—from stationery items, books, paper collages, to tarot cards. Local brands such as Everyday Explorers, Shop Abbey Sy, Eden Street, Practical Magic and artists Arlene Sy, Cynthia Arre, and Chi Chi Romero are just some of the amazing vendors participating at PaperCon this year.
Apart from shopping, guests can expect to learn more about journaling and snail mail, as there as workshops happening from 1PM to 4PM: Travel Journaling with Abbey Sy, Kawaii Journaling with Kaila Ocampo of Rainbowholic, and Introduction to Snail Mail with Diane Ang of Poppy Paper. Application for workshops are at http://paperconph.com/workshops. There will be a special mailbox available at the venue where you can send snail mail to your friends and family. Plus, stay until the end for an exclusive meetup where you can spend the late afternoon journaling with fellow paper lovers!
Of course, an event isn’t complete without food and drinks—pastries from Everyday Mom, rice toppings from Cantonese Dimsum House, coffee from Key Coffee and milk tea from Serenitea will be available at PaperCon, so you definitely won’t go hungry while shopping for your paper loot.
(I wrote that, lol #PRwritingskills)
Here’s what to expect at PaperCon (from me):
TRAVEL JOURNALING CAPSULE WORKSHOP
I’m having a class on travel journaling from 1-2PM. The workshop includes materials for travel journaling + a one-pager full of useful tips and advice to get you started. I also give a live demo at the event.
The workshop fee is P1,500 and you can register for a slot here. Last few slots left so don’t miss it!
New washi tape designs, a lettering workbook, new stamp collab, new washi collab…and more! There are a lot of exclusive products I’m releasing on October 5, so don’t miss it. I will be having a booth specifically for the shop so do drop by!
If you’re unable to, you can always shop online—and wait for the new items to be available at the webshop this holiday season.
I’m signing books at PaperCon! There will be a separate Abbey Sy booth where I will have all my books available for sale and to be signed by yours truly.
There are specific signing times open throughout the 10AM-7PM time: 11-1PM, 2-4PM, and 5-7PM.
If you are from Manila, hope to see you there! It’s the first ever paper event in Manila and we are so excited!
